Making change by making film

by Abi Weaver

Pakistani Boy

As well the annual film festival, LIDF is continually engaged in activities involving documentary productions and educational initiatives. Pakistani Filmmakers for Social Change is our biggest and most exciting project to date. We have travelled to Karachi twice since January to deliver a series of workshops for young documentary filmmakers. The result: four brilliant insights into a world which is so often misrepresented in the west.

These filmmakers are heading to London this week to show their films as part of LIDF09 and discuss with their UK counterparts how filmmaking can facilitate social transformation. Meet them, and see the films at the Filmmaking for Social Change event at the RSA on Wednesday from 2pm.

The event will also include screenings of Red Burqa, My Sin and The Sacred Goats, and debates with experts from the BBC, Channel 4, UNESCO, and the British High Commission in Pakistan. Themes include Internet and Advocacy and the UK Media and the War on Terror.
