Explore the big issues on Friday
LIDF09 enters it penultimate day with a day full of films and conversation at the Barbican. Lessons start bright and early at 10am with Big Boy, the story of one intense year of Finnish childhood.
Then join us for Like A Man on Earth, Red Sands and Left Behind at 11:15am. Three diverse films connected by one, incredibly human theme: our relationship with danger.
Get a view of Italian prison life from the Inside Out at 1:15pm, which documents prisoners’ actions to write and perform a play denoncing their living conditions.
The harsh lifestyle is self-imposed when John Webster puts himself and his family on an ‘oil-diet’ in Recipes for Disaster at 2:30pm and talk about the issues raised with environmental journalist Caspar Henderson. Remaining with the environment, A Conversation in Europe: Arts and Environment Workshop starts at the Barbican at 1pm.
In the evening we move over to the Courthouse Hotel for a revealing view in to the world of Arms, Dealings and National Interests at 7pm. After the film join International Relations expert Dr Anna Stavrianakis and journalist Juliana Ruhfus for conversation.
We round of the day with the UK premiere of Virtual JFK: Vietnam If Kennedy Had Lived at 7:30pm at The Soho Hotel. A virtual history into the way things may have been, had his assasination been prevented.
And don’t forget, we have another great day of films all Saturday at the British Museum!
